Course Overview

This course is designed to provide content including medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, dispensing of prescriptions, defining drugs by generic and brand names, patient safety and quality assurance and federal regulation (Pharmacy Law). Students will also learn the fundamentals of measurement and calculation; IV flow rates, dose conversions, inventory control, and billing reimbursement. This will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician NHA Certification exam. Successfully completing the training program and passing the NHA exam qualifies students to apply to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency to obtain their Pharmacy Technician License.

The course is 16 weeks long, 300 clock hours comprised of 160 hours of externship work-based learning at Walgreens and other local pharmacy and healthcare facilities.
