Job Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the institute’s budgeting and financial planning processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with the finance team.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, as well as institutional policies.
Conduct monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Prepare financial reports for leadership, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Support audits by providing accurate documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Collaborate with the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee payments.
Assist in grant management, including tracking expenditures and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making by institute leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
Experience with budgeting and financial forecasting is a plus.
